How to T.A.L.K to your doctor
Most people lift Doctors up to a very high level, which they do deserve some of that since they did go to medical school and pass, but at the end of the day they are just human. With being human, they make mistakes and do overlook things more often than you think.
It is the CUSTOMER/Patients responsibility to ensure things make sense and you have all the questions you have answered.
Even though the health Insurance Company, or Auto Insurance company or your work is paying the bill YOU are still the customer. Just like any other project you hire out you want to make sure it is done right, and if you have questions you ask and if you dont believe the answer then you get a secon opinion.
Same goes for your doctors, nurses and hospitals.
And if you dont think you are the customer, just take a look at the paperwork you sign, that reads YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CHARGES if your insurance company or another source does not pay. YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER !!
Here is something you may want to use, the next time you are with your doctor; T.A.L.K
T: Tell your doctor everything, even if it is small as a cut you recieved 2 weeks ago. They need to know, as often times it is eaiser to figure out what is not wrong with you and by a process of elimenation they track down the real problem and that info may help them do that. TELL THEM EVERYTHING !!!! They get paid by the hour, so get your monies worth.
A: Ask lots of questions. If things dont make sense ASK WHY, explain your concerns and ASK SPECIFIC questions. You want to ask as many questions about Where, How Long, Why as you can. The best wqay to recover, is to know what to ecpect. ASK QUESTIONS!
L: Listen, and take good notes. Especially if you have several doctors there are lots of things going on and they expect you to do what they say, so with LISTEN I suggest taking lots of notes while at the doctors office, and then review them when you are at home to make sure you do what you are told. Prime example, a person opens up their prescriptions case to see 2 prescriptions that were supposed to be filled and taken before a procedure. It was not donr, but the doctor prescribed them, and assumes you did what you were told. IT HAPPENS, but with so much going on things get forgotten so LISTEN and take good notes.
K: Knowledge - You need to know what is going on, so if you have to ask 2 times that is ok. Some people ask the doctor to write it down or even draw a picture. Always explain it back to the doctor in your own words to make sure you understand what you were told, and so you can tell the next doctor if needed.
I also suggest to keep a log of all medical procedures and prescriptions as each doctor will want to know and sometimes it is hard to remember.
It is your responsibility to T.A.L.K to your doctor, if you dont WHO WILL?
